Valuation
Valuation is a mandatory step for court orders when splitting superannuation. The method and factors for valuation are prescribed by the Family Law (Superannuation) Regulations. In the growth phase, there is a three step process:
- Obtain the gross value
- Deduct earlier splits
- Deduct surcharge liability
In the payment phase there is a two step process:
- Obtain the gross value
- Deduct earlier splits
Both of these require obtaining the gross value. The gross value is determined by a prescribed actuarial formula.
The trustee may apply for a plan specific method and factors where the default factors produce results not in keeping with plan design. Click here (insert hyperlink) for the list.
